General Statement of Duties:

The McKeown School of Education at Salem State University is seeking applicants for a full-time, tenure track faculty position in Early Literacy/Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL), PreK-2. The School of Education seeks faculty members who are dedicated to culturally sustaining teaching practices, thrive in a student-centered teaching program, and have a strong interest in preparing a teaching workforce that can meet the many challenges of today’s early childhood education environment and support young multilingual learners in a variety of instructional contexts. Faculty members also serve the department through curriculum development, program evaluation, policy development, and evaluation.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Candidates are required to perform duties in accordance with the MSCA contract. Duties include teaching, advising, scholarship and contributions to continuously improve the department and university. The standard teaching load is 12 credit hours per semester. The position is subject to available funding.* Teaching Expectations: Deliver engaging undergraduate and graduate courses in early literacy and TESOL, focusing on children from birth to age 8. Emphasize evidence-based practices and instructional strategies tailored to the developmental stages of young learners, while integrating a social justice perspective to address equity, access and inclusivity in education. Duties also encompass supervising pre-practicum for EEC/ECE candidates and supervising candidates during their student teaching practicum. Teaching modalities include in-person, hybrid, and online formats.
* Service Expectations: Faculty are expected to contribute to the curricular and policy work of the department, school, and University and may be expected to take on leadership roles related to their area of expertise.
* Advising: Faculty are expected to advise undergraduate students and to hold office hours.
* Collaboration: Faculty are expected to engage with colleagues to develop and implement innovative approaches to early literacy or TESOL instruction and engage in interdisciplinary initiatives and partnerships to enhance the quality of education for young learners and multilingual learners.

Qualifications:
**Required Qualifications:*** Earned doctorate prior to start date in literacy and/or TESOL or related field with expertise in both early literacy and TESOL.
* Minimum of 2 years’ experience working with young children (birth–8), families, and /or early childhood professionals in settings such as public schools, preschools, family childcare, community- or home-based programs.
* Demonstrated experience and evidence of an intensive focus on early literacy.
* Demonstrated experience and evidence of focus on dual language or multilingual learners or culturally sustaining teaching practices in birth-8 care and education.

**Preferred Qualifications:*** Bilingual
* Experience teaching in multiple modalities in higher education, including in-person and online, and familiarity with learning management systems, such as Canvas.
* Record of scholarly productivity or professional impact in the field of early literacy, early childhood education and/or TESOL.
* Demonstrated knowledge of the professional standards established by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC).
* Experience with grant writing, program assessment and program coordination.
* Demonstrated experience and dedication to fostering collegiality and collaborative work with fellow faculty and/or other education professionals.
