The Office of the Legislative Auditor (OLA) is now accepting applications for paid student assistant evaluators within the Program Evaluation Division. OLA conducts nonpartisan research on a wide variety of public policies, programs, and state agencies. In this position, you will work in a small team under the direction of a supervisor to contribute meaningfully to our program evaluations while developing your research and communication skills. Applications from this posting may be used to fill up to two (2) summer 2025 positions. Assistant evaluators will generally work up to 40 hours per week; schedules are flexible and assistant evaluators may work remotely.
**Job Duties**
With training and assistance from senior staff, assistant evaluators will contribute to conducting evaluations or special reviews, which may include:
* Performing research tasks, such as:
+ Conducting interviews, site visits, or document reviews, and analyzing resulting data.
+ Analyzing existing research reports or state and federal laws.
+ Designing, administering, and/or analyzing surveys.
+ Managing, cleaning, and/or analyzing data.
* Writing memoranda or creating graphics to communicate research results.
* Verifying the accuracy of analysis performed by other evaluators.

### **Minimum Qualifications**
To be considered, a candidate**must submit a cover letter** and **must be a student** currently enrolled in a master’s or doctorate program in the social sciences, public policy, public health, applied economics, or another relevant field. A candidate must also have:
* Strong writing skills.
* Proficiency in Microsoft programs (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
* The ability to work effectively with people who have a diverse range of perspectives.
* The ability to conduct objective, nonpartisan research on complicated topics.
### **Preferred Qualifications**
In addition to meeting the minimum qualifications, the ideal candidate will also have one or more of the following:
* Training or experience in one or more research methods, such as:
o Data organization and quantitative analysis
o Interviews
o Surveys
o Focus groups
o Literature reviews
* Program evaluation training or experience.
* Proficiency using statistical analysis software, such as Stata, SPSS, or R.
* Proficiency using content analysis software, such as NVivo.
* Proficiency using survey software, such as SNAP.
* Training or experience conducting legal research.
* Experience working in teams.
### **Additional Requirements**
We will review cover letters and resumes to identify applicants meeting minimum and preferred qualifications. Selected applicants will go through an interview process and will be required to submit education transcripts, a writing sample, and references. At the time of the interview, we may ask applicants to respond to a writing prompt.
We will conduct background checks prior to any employment offer. Violations relevant to being an evaluator at OLA may disqualify an applicant.
Due to the nonpartisan nature of our office, applicants with extensive prior partisan work experience may be disqualified.
