As an Assistant Resident Engineer Land Use, you will use our foundational drivers to play a crucial role in shaping the highways that connect communities and drive progress across the Commonwealth of Virginia.

* This position serves as the focal point for services, and primary contact/liaison for local governments on activities impacting the local geographic region.
* Administering VDOT land development activities in assigned geographic regions regarding land-use policies, procedures, and guidelines.
* Managing resources and staff allocated to the program to accomplish objectives.
* Representing the Department and effectively communicating and responding to all internal and external customers.
* Effectively managing program budget resources.
* Serving as the Louisa Residency Staff Engineer

Minimum Qualifications

* Experience applying civil engineering principles and practices to land development design, transportation construction, and maintenance projects.
* Experience with land use and development activities including rezoning and public meetings.
* Experience managing and directing activities related to staffing, budgeting, planning, prioritizing, scheduling, project management oversight, problem-solving, and staff development.
* Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing with diverse audiences.
* Skill in the use of computers and software programs to include MS Office and engineering design software.
* Skill in developing and managing effective relationships with employees, citizens and public officials.
* Valid Professional Engineer (PE) license or ability to obtain with six (6) months of employment.
* Valid driver’s license
* Approved safety shoes are required. (Approved safety shoes are eligible for reimbursement).

Additional Considerations

* BS in Civil Engineering or related field; equivalent experience or training may substitute for a degree.
* Progressively responsible engineering and land development experience in a diversified transportation program.
* Experience overseeing the work of others.
* Progressively responsible experience managing a transportation maintenance program.

VDOT is an emergency response agency. As such, this position may be required to assist during emergency operations, requiring work outside of normal work hours to ensure the safety of the traveling public.
