Job Description

Job purpose: Design the control systems for machines mainly in the tire/automotive industry. This will include testing, debugging and installing systems that control machines and display results of the tests. They will consult with software and mechanical departments to identify machine requirements based on customer specifications. Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.

**Responsibilities:**

* Design control systems that integrate the following components: sensors, drives, motors, PLCs, PCs, and other data acquisition and control components
* Draw schematic and panel layouts of the designed system.
* Generation of bills of material via Microsoft Excel, Access.
* Size and layout conduit schedule.
* Design system appropriately for category of safety.
* Check-out and set-up of designed control system.
* Troubleshoot/Debug issues related to electrical control of new machines and machines in the field.

**Requirements:**

* Educational and experience requirements include bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering (BSEE)
* Firm handle on Power Systems design (three-phase distribution and motors)
* Schematics and panel layouts via AutoCAD or other.
* Understanding of NEC and specifically NFPA 79 and/or EN 60204-1 for industrial controls design.
* Knowledge of UL, OSHA, ISO, EN Harmonized, ANSI, and IEC standards.
* Grounding and how it relates to noise reduction in system design.
* Knowledge of basic Newtonian physics.
* Works well independently with minimal supervision, and ability to work well in a small team setting.

**Additional preferred knowledge:**

* Programming of PLCs (Allen-Bradley) and the integration to PCs via RSLogix 500/5000 and ladder logic.
* DC and AC Drives (ABB, Allen-Bradley, Parker) set-up and tuning.
* Hydraulics and Pneumatics (solenoids, servo valves)
* Understanding of PID control and how to tune various control systems (such as servo-hydraulic and closed-loop electrical servo systems).
* Strain-gage, LVDT, and other sensors and amplification of such signals
* Ability to write or step-through compiled PC programs (C/C++,Delphi,VBA).
* Data Acquisition from PC via ActiveX, DLL, etc. Installation and set-up of boards: Microstar, Measurement Computing, Keithley, Opto22.
* Circuit design and board layout
* Apply European Machinery Directive, Risk Assessment, and EMC Directives to aid in CE certification
