**Job Description**
Under direction of a supervisory official in the Department of Labor and Workforce Development, as a trainee and productive
worker in a local employment office, does work involved in interviewing and classifying job applicants for employment;
makes field and office investigations to determine applicant eligibility for employment disability benefits and/or unemployment
insurance; assists in making investigations involved in observance of Title 34, New Jersey Statutes, or in administration of
sections of the Prevailing Wage Act for which the office is responsible; does other related duties as required.
**NOTE: The position of Field Investigator 1 is responsible for enforcing a host of Wage and Hour and Public Contracts laws**
**such as minimum wage, overtime, child labor, earned sick leave and prevailing wage. The position requires site visits to**
**employer establishments, and which may include construction sites, entails meetings with employers or their**
**representatives, auditing of records and documents, interviews of workers, calculations of any back wages to workers,**
**discusses and may negotiate findings with employers, and the writing of reports documenting the findings of their**
**investigation.**

**REQUIREMENTS:**
**NOTE:** Applicants must meet one of the following or a combination of both experience and education. Thirty (30) semester hour
credits are equal to one (1) year of relevant experience.

Five (5) years of professional experience in identifying and investigating violations in a field of specific regulatory conditions,
interpreting and applying these regulations and making recommendations based on findings.

journeyman titles connected to this trainee title. Experience must be related to the journeyman title associated with the position.

Possession of a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
