The Bristol District is seeking enthusiastic and driven Engineering Technicians for multiple summer 2025 hourly positions. Each position will focus on a specific area, providing valuable hands-on experience in one of the following functions:

Location and Design Division

Bridge Division

Materials Division

Construction Division

Environmental Division

Traffic Division

Abingdon Residency Office

Lebanon Residency Office

Wytheville Residency Office

Wise Residency Office

These positions offer an excellent opportunity to gain exposure to key aspects of engineering while working in a dynamic team environment.

This program provides valuable exposure to the diverse work that VDOT performs and prepares them for a future career in transportation. Summer hourly Engineering Techs will gain hands-on experience with real-world job assignments, work closely with a diverse group of professionals, and receive structured training opportunities aligned with VDOT’s current and future workforce needs.

**Minimum Qualifications**

* U.S. work authorization required.
* Be at least 18 years of age by the start of their employment
* Experience or education in related field. (Engineering, Transportation, GIS, Environmental, Construction, Traffic)
* Must possess a valid driver’s license.
* Ability to work in inclement weather and climb slopes.

**Additional Considerations**

Successful candidates will have experience in the related program and be motivated, customer focused and action-oriented individuals with a drive for learning on the job and achieving results. You will have demonstrated ability to make quality and timely decisions, take initiative, communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, prioritize and organize multiple demands in a continuously changing environment, use a computer and software applications, have a basic knowledge of engineering principles, and can meet established deadlines. Ability to anticipate problems, provide solutions, follow instructions, learn quickly and collaborate with teammates.
