The Impact You’ll Make in this Role
As a Global ESG Specialist, you will have the opportunity to tap into your curiosity and collaborate with some of the most innovative and diverse people around the world. Here, you will make an impact by:* Rapidly gain an understanding of 3M’s business divisions and identify potential related sustainability issues (i.e., drivers of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, waste, water stewardship, safety)
* During relevant projects, act as the expert and/or partner with external experts on core sustainability topics including waste, water, energy, and emissions
* In relation to 3M’s sustainability commitments, goals and key performance indicators, identify key risks to achievement and assist in road-mapping future actions
* Assess and evaluate existing ESG processes and identify key risks of fraud or error
* Remain abreast of 3M’s primary regulators (globally) and their current and proposed expectations for reporting and disclosure
* Confidently articulate findings and observations in the form of actionable recommendations
* Build cross-functional relationships to guide, support and “connect the dots” between business operations and science for circular, climate and community goals and commitments
* Continue to assess material ESG issues as 3M accelerates sustainability efforts, identifying opportunities to partner with external agencies and key stakeholders to build strategic models and a strategic roadmap for overall impact
* Leverage knowledge and expertise to cross-share with operational audit teams and participate on audits of 3M’s sustainability reporting and effectiveness of control execution
Your Skills and Expertise
To set you up for success in this role from day one, 3M requires (at a minimum) the following qualifications:* Bachelor’s degree or higher in environmental/climate science, sustainability, or public health (completed and verified prior to start) from an accredited insti
* Three (3) years of experience using ESG reporting frameworks and methodologies including TCFD, IIRC, GRI and SASB, CSRD, and the GHG Protocol in a private, public, government or military environment
Additional qualifications that could help you succeed even further in this role include:* Detail-oriented with strong project management, analytical, critical thinking and problem-solving skills
* Experience in conducting a GHG inventory build and understanding of emission factors databases
* Excellent communication (verbal and written), collaboration, and presentation skills
* Assurance or attestation experience
* Experience managing project work with tight deadlines and working in a fast-paced environment
* Ability to engage at all levels of the organization
* Demonstrated success in developing and executing against project plans
* Comfortable in both individual contributing roles and cross-functional team management roles
* Experience with MS Excel, MS Visio, data analytics and queries
Work location:* Work Your Way Eligible (Employee choice to work remote, on site, or hybrid)
Travel: May include up to 10% domestic/international
