The Department of Natural Resources is seeking to fill two (2) full-time Heavy Equipment Mechanic positions in Grand Rapids. The position supports the DNR Fleet Program in the Northeast Region performs skilled maintenance, repair, service, and fabrication to equipment utilized by all divisions of the department. This position services and repairs equipment in the shop and field. The position is responsible for carrying out the DNR Fleet Program activities so that fleet services are implemented in a safe, cost effective and customer focused manner.
Job duties include but are not limited to:
* Inspect, diagnose, and repair mechanical, electrical or other system failures to heavy equipment such as crawlers, dozers, loaders, back-hoes, road graders, tracked ATVs, snow groomers and other fleet related equipment.
* Diagnose and repair, rebuild and service non-fleet equipment such as boats and motors, chain saws, trailers, brush cutters, lawn mowers, etc. to carry out the DNR division program tasks.
* Install and maintain aftermarket equipment and accessories so that department employees use up-to-date, safe and reliable equipment to carry out work assignments.
* Assist in preparing equipment for use as loan vehicles, auction items or salvage.
* Maintain the shop to comply with OSHA/MPCA requirements and department operating procedures of a class A repair shop so that a safe and sanitary facility is maintained to repair and service DNR equipment.

### **Minimum Qualifications**
* Post-secondary or industry certificate/diploma/degree in Diesel Mechanics, or two (2) years of work experience as a heavy equipment mechanic.
* Applicant must obtain the following Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certifications within six (6) months of hire:
+ T2 Diesel Engines
+ T8 Preventative Maintenance and Inspection
* Ability to obtain a Minnesota State Patrol Commercial Vehicle Inspection Certification within six (6) months of hire.
* Position requires a Class A license, passing a pre-employment drug screen and participation in the DNR ongoing random screening program. Qualified applicants who do not have a valid Class A will be allowed up to six (6) months to acquire one, as a condition of employment.
### **Preferred Qualifications**
* Five (5) years of heavy equipment mechanic experience.
* Current Class A license.
* Current Minnesota State Patrol Commercial Vehicle Inspection (MIP) certificate.
* ASE certificates in the following areas:
+ T1 Gasoline Engines
+ T3 Drive Train
+ T4 Brakes
+ T5 Suspension and Steering
+ T6 Electrical/Electronic Systems
+ T7 Heating, Ventilation & Air Conditioning (HVAC)
### **Additional Requirements**
This position requires current possession of a valid Class A license or the ability to obtain one in the first 6 months of employment. The selected applicant will be required to pass a pre-employment drug screen and will be included in the ongoing DNR random drug and alcohol test program.
Applicants must have the ability to meet the physical requirements and work in the environmental conditions of the position, with or without accommodations.
