**Lead SME – Domestic Tax Manager (Insurance Industry)**

**Location:** Boston, MA or Springfield, MA (Remote with travel onsite for QE and YE close)
**Duration:** 12+ month contract

**About the Role:**
We are seeking a Manager-level Tax SME to support domestic tax provision processes as part of a large-scale accounting transformation within the insurance industry. This role will focus on reviewing book-to-tax adjustments, managing quarterly tax provision analysis, and overseeing related journal entries. The SME will play a key role in ensuring accuracy, compliance, and efficiency in domestic tax reporting during a time of transformation.
**Key Responsibilities:**
– Oversee and review domestic tax provisions for insurance entities.
– Review and validate book-to-tax adjustments to ensure compliance with GAAP and statutory requirements.
– Perform and review quarterly tax provision analysis and related journal entries.
– Collaborate with Finance, Tax, and Technology teams to ensure accurate and timely reporting.
– Provide guidance on domestic tax provision methodology, risks, and process improvements.
– Support testing and validation of tax processes during the organization’s migration to new systems.
– Document processes and support readiness activities for tax reporting functions.
**Required Skills & Experience:**
– 7–10+ years of experience in tax, accounting, or finance roles, with a focus on domestic tax provisions.
– Insurance industry experience required; life insurance tax experience preferred.
– Strong technical knowledge of US GAAP, statutory accounting, and tax reporting standards.
– Experience reviewing and preparing book-to-tax adjustments, quarterly provisions, and tax journal entries.
– Exposure to SAP FICO or other ERP systems preferred; S/4HANA experience a plus.
– Strong analytical, organizational, and reconciliation skills.
– Excellent communication skills with the ability to work across Tax, Finance, and Technology teams.
– Proven ability to lead or review work at the manager level.
