**Title: Lead SME – Financial Close and** **Consolidation**

**Contract Details:**

Location: Boston, MA or Springfield, MA (Remote with travel onsite for QE and YE close)

Duration: 12+ month contract

Start: ASAP

**About the Role**

We are seeking a Lead Subject Matter Expert (SME) to support the Financial Close & Consolidation team as part of a major accounting transformation initiative in the insurance industry. This position will backfill a key super user who has transitioned to a project role, ensuring continuity of critical close and consolidation processes.

The SME will focus on delivering timely and accurate close, consolidation, and financial reporting activities, while supporting process improvements during a period of system and organizational change.

**Key Responsibilities**

– Support financial close and consolidation processes , ensuring timely and accurate reporting.

– Prepare and review consolidated financial statements and sub-consolidations for insurance entities.

– Perform journal entry reviews, intercompany eliminations, reconciliations, and variance analysis .

– Ensure compliance with US GAAP and statutory reporting requirements .

– Partner with Finance and Technology teams to resolve close and consolidation issues during transformation.

– Provide testing and validation support for new processes and systems as needed.

– Contribute to process documentation and improvement initiatives.

**Required Skills & Experience**

– 5+ years of accounting, finance, or controllership experience , with a focus on close and consolidation processes .

– Insurance industry experience required ; life insurance experience preferred.

– Strong knowledge of US GAAP and statutory accounting .

– Experience with SAP FICO (finance/accounting modules) highly preferred.

– Hands-on experience with consolidation and reporting processes in large organizations.

– Strong analytical, detail-oriented, and problem-solving skills.

– Excellent communication and collaboration abilities across Finance and Technology teams.
