Rate: $85–95/ hr

**About the Role**
We are seeking a Lead Subject Matter Expert (SME) to drive an accounting transformation initiative within the insurance industry . This role will focus on investments controllership , specifically securities accounting, and requires a unique blend of management consulting expertise , deep investment accounting knowledge, and strong understanding of GAAP and statutory requirements .
The SME will partner closely with the Corporate Investments Controllership team, Investment Management, Technology, and Project stakeholders to ensure that accounting and reporting for securities — including equity and alternative assets — is designed, implemented, and operationalized effectively.
**Key Responsibilities**
– Lead controllership efforts for securities and investment accounting across equity and alternative asset classes.
– Define, validate , and oversee end-to-end accounting processes for securities transactions, valuations, impairments, and reporting.
– Ensure accounting policies and practices are fully compliant with GAAP and statutory reporting requirements in the insurance sector.
– Partner with Technology teams to align system design with accounting and reporting needs.
– Provide functional expertise on SAP FICO (finance/accounting modules), supporting process design and reporting needs.
– Contribute to the migration effort from SAP R/3 or ECC to S/4HANA , ensuring financial data integrity and reporting alignment.
– Support change management, training, and process documentation to drive adoption of new systems and practices.
– Provide guidance and subject matter expertise to leadership on investment accounting issues, risks, and opportunities.
**Required Skills & Experience**
– 8+ years of accounting and controllership experience , with a strong focus on investment/securities accounting .
– Prior insurance industry experience required ; life insurance or large-scale investment accounting experience preferred.
– Deep knowledge of US GAAP and statutory accounting standards.
– Strong consulting or transformation project background; able to operate in a client-facing advisory capacity.
– SAP FICO experience highly preferred , with hands-on involvement in SAP R/3 or ECC migration to S/4HANA .
– Experience partnering with Investment Management, Finance, and Technology teams on accounting transformation initiatives.
– Proven ability to document and implement new processes, train teams, and ensure business readiness.
– Exceptional communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
