**Role Overview**
This position supports the Enterprise Technology Services Office within the Office of Administration for our client. The incumbent serves as a subject matter expert on enterprise monitoring tools and observability processes used across the commonwealth’s hybrid infrastructure environments.
The role is responsible for improving and standardizing monitoring, automation, and service management processes while collaborating with technical teams, agency stakeholders, and vendors. The position reports within the Enterprise Technology Services Office structure and supports enterprise-wide operational monitoring initiatives.
**Key Responsibilities**
– Drive process and tooling improvements to implement automation-first practices
– Maintain endpoint monitoring connectivity across hybrid networks
– Manage telemetry ingestion through agents, SNMP, WMI, and APIs
– Manage certificates and credentials supporting monitoring platforms
– Create and maintain runbooks, SOPs, service maps, and workflows in version-controlled repositories
– Document incidents and problems within ServiceNow including observability context
– Produce post-incident reviews and maintain a Known Error Database
– Collaborate with Enterprise Change and Incident Management teams
– Track SLAs, MTTR, and root cause analysis quality metrics
– Implement structured communication workflows for incidents and changes
– Align monitoring services with Commonwealth IT policies
– Create and track Requests for Change within ServiceNow
– Provide availability and operational metrics for SLA reporting
– Define RTO and RPO objectives for monitoring infrastructure
– Execute and update disaster recovery exercises and plans
– Fulfill Continuity of Government obligations during activation events
– Operate within ITIL-aligned service management frameworks
**Required Experience And Skills**
**Infrastructure Monitoring and Observability**
– Minimum 5 years of experience in IT infrastructure monitoring, automation, and observability in hybrid environments
– Experience with monitoring platforms such as SCOM, SquaredUp, or equivalent platforms including Dynatrace, Datadog, or Splunk
– Experience maintaining endpoint monitoring connectivity using agents, SNMP, WMI, and APIs
**Cloud and Automation**
– Hands-on experience with Azure Monitor and Log Analytics
– Experience implementing automation using Azure Automation and CI/CD pipelines
– Experience with Ansible
– Knowledge of API integration and secure authentication
**Scripting and Query Languages**
– Strong proficiency in PowerShell
– Proficiency in at least one additional scripting language such as Python, SQL, or Bash
– Experience with KQL
**IT Service Management**
– Working knowledge of ITIL 4 practices including Change, Incident, and Problem Management
– Experience with ServiceNow or similar ITSM platforms
**Education**
– Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field
**Preferred Qualifications**
– Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate or Azure Solutions Architect Expert
– ITIL 4 Foundation or higher
– Experience with SquaredUp or equivalent dashboarding tools
– Experience with disaster recovery planning and testing
– Experience with performance tuning and capacity planning for monitoring platforms
– Familiarity with security best practices for APIs and automation scripts
– Familiarity with hybrid cloud environments and networking fundamentals
