**Summary:** We are seeking a Nutritionist/Dietitian to provide nutritionist services on-site as needed. Onsite locations are primarily at 492 First Avenue in Manhattan, and Secure Juvenile Detention Centers at 17 Bristol Street, Brooklyn, and 560 Brook Avenue, Bronx. May also ask that administrative work, meetings and training be completed at 66 John Street, Manhattan. May call on the nutritionist for up to five days per week, with the schedule set no less than two weeks ahead of the scheduled week

**Job Title:** **Nutritionist/Dietitian**

**Location: New York, NY 10038**

**Target Work Schedule: As needed, up to 40 hours per week**

**Target Duration/End Date: March 2025**

**Description of Roles and Responsibilities**:

· Organize and plan menus for youth in juvenile justice program facilities and children at the Children’s Center to ensure compliance with the New York City Food Standards and the National School Lunch and Breakfast Program

· Review and update menus as needed for remedies to ensure adherence to required standards

· Perform menu nutritional analysis using applicable software and compile, analyze, and enter performance data into computerized case record recording system

· Provide in-person nutritional counseling directly to children and young people, to meet their needs and support good health and well-being

· Formulate special diet menus for pregnancy, diabetes, allergies etc.

· Review menus for the 13 contracted non-secure detention group homes, on an as-needed basis, to ensure their compliance with NYC Food Standards

· Visit Food Service locations (Secure Detention Sites, Children’s Center and non-secure detention (NSD) group homes) to analyze and synthesize documented information to evaluate and measure agency practice and compliance. Gather qualitative data to assess the performance of food service operations by conducting site visits, reviewing records and conducting surveys and interviews concerning service quality

· Represent and liaise with other City Agencies regarding NYC Food Standards best practices, and food services for NYC clients

· Prepare annual Food Metrics Report for Mayor’s Office of Food Policy on compliance with NYC Food Standards

· **Possess three (3) years of satisfactory experience in the type of work described herein**

**Mandatory/Minimum Qualification, Skills, Experience Requirements**:

Candidates must be a Registered Dietitian with the Commission of Dietetic Registration. Master’s degree from an accredited college in nutrition or in public health; and/or a baccalaureate degree from an accredited college, including or supplemented by 18 semester credits in nutrition or public health on the graduate or undergraduate level, and three (3) years of satisfactory full-time professional experience in nutrition education

**Qualification, Skills, Experience Requirements**:

· Current registration with the CDR as an RD or certification as a Dietitian-Nutritionist, and one year of post-registration/certification experience proving dietetic services to individuals

· Conducting program monitoring to ensure compliance with Federal regulations in the Metropolitan NY region

· Providing nutrition program guidance and technical assistance

· Conducting training related to menu planning, food service operations and maintaining required records consistent with the Child and Adult Care Food Program regulations

· Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of medical staff, healthcare professionals, managers, clients, customers, and the public

· Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, percentages, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra

· Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret a variety of technical instructions and deal with several abstract and concrete variables

**Preferred Qualifications:**

· Experience working for a federally funded child nutrition program, such as the Child and Adult Care Food Program

· Experience analyzing results of on-site reviews and preparing written reports on a wide range of nutrition related tasks to support contracted operations

· Experience using Microsoft Office Programs in addition to an online payment processing system such as the Child and Adult Care Food Program Information and Payment System, and management storage systems such as Docstar eFile Management Software
