MDH’s Health Equity Bureau has an exciting opportunity for you to join our team as an Office of American Indian Health (OAIH) Student Worker. This student worker position will provide planning and documentation support to the OAIH’s Program Team. This position will support the planning, coordination, and evaluation of OAIH’s culturally based community solutions, including the American Indian Special Emphasis grant program and other related grant programs as provided by the state legislature and other funding sources related to culturally based community solutions. This position will contribute to OAIH’s goals of maintaining strengths-based, community-led, and cultural preservation and revitalization efforts that support well-being among Tribal and American Indian communities and the broader need across MDH programs that serve Tribal and urban American Indian community partners.
This position will have the option of teleworking; applicants must reside in Minnesota. However, it will be based on the business needs of the unit and is at supervisory discretion. Commuting to the St. Paul office and other MDH office locations across the state may be required. This position is part-time and will work 10 hours per week. The specific hours and days of work are flexible within 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. This position is anticipated to last until December 2024, or until the selected candidate completes their educational program, whichever occurs sooner.
To be eligible for appointment as a student worker you must be enrolled in a post-secondary, graduate, or doctoral program. You will be asked to complete an Education Verification form prior to employment.
The successful candidate, under U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services regulations, must be able to accept work in the U.S. by the day employment begins. The agency is unable to offer H1B sponsorship.

### **Minimum Qualifications**
**The following minimum qualifications must be clearly demonstrated on the applicant’s resume/application:**
* Completion of two (2) years of post-secondary education in Public Health or related field(s).
Student Worker Eligibility: To be eligible for appointment as a Student Worker Paraprofessional Senior you must be enrolled in a post-secondary or graduate program or plan to enroll within three months. Students may be “off” for the summer or for one semester/quarter and remain employed as a student worker, but such absences cannot exceed one semester/quarter in a year. If you are enrolled at a credit-granting institution, you must carry at least six semester/nine quarter credits. If enrolled at a non-credit granting institution or one that only offers one credit per class, you must be taking two or more classes per semester/quarter. Any lesser credit (class) load will be treated as a semester/quarter off. Graduate students must be enrolled in at least two courses or making progress on a dissertation. You will be asked to complete an Educational Verification form prior to appointment.
Qualifications to be further assessed during the interview process:
* Strong written and verbal communications skills sufficient to translate project information to a diverse audience of both technical and non-technical stakeholders and related partners.
* Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, public officials, and Tribal Public Health.
* Possess innovative and creative problem-solving skills.
* Ability to work independently and manage time, workload, and priorities without day-to-day supervision of activities.
### **Preferred Qualifications**
* Current enrollment in a Master of Public Health graduate school program.
* Knowledge of the Minnesota Department of Health functions, policies and procedures related to grant-management and finances.
* Knowledge of Tribal Nations and their health systems located within Minnesota boundaries.
* Knowledge of population-based health improvement initiatives that emphasize policies, systems, and environmental changes.
