The Department of Natural Resources is seeking to fill one (1) position for Research Analyst Intermediate in Grand Rapids. This position exists to perform and support Geographic Information System (GIS), aerial photography, and data entry work for the Division of Forestry Resource Assessment Program (RAP). This position conducts GIS data analysis, imagery interpretation and delineation, and data entry tasks for clients engaged in natural resource management activities.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
* Perform, oversee, and support GIS and remote sensing staff to complete GIS, remote sensing, and database projects as assigned.
* Implement and perform aerial photography interpretation and spatial data creation work in conjunction with other RA staff, including students. Implement technical procedures base on written and/or verbal direction and/or plans, generally with a minimum of oversight.
* Manually enter data from paper forms and maps into geospatial databases using survey123, GIS, and arcgis online applications.
* Perform all job responsibilities in a manner that supports a healthy, safe, and productive work environment for all employees.
This position has a flexible work arrangement and may be eligible to telework on a part-time basis which is subject to change. If approved, the employee would be required to complete an annual telework agreement.

### **Minimum Qualifications**
* Bachelor’s degree in GIS or Natural Resources, or closely related discipline.
* Two (2) years of professional experience with GIS and/or Remote Sensing data and products, including a demonstrated proficiency with industry standard software and knowledge of theory and practical applications of GIS and Photogrammetry. *An advanced degree in the fields defined above could count as one year of experience.*
* Knowledge of GIS techniques and applications used in Natural Resource Management, Cartographic skills, and Geospatial data/database collection, analysis, trouble shooting, and distribution techniques.
* Ability to design databases for specific customer projects; create entry forms to facilitate data entry; populate databases; perform ” front line” troubleshooting of databases; perform queries and extract data, run basic analyses and export data to customers.
* Ability to work with multiple software packages, identify and implement new techniques pertinent to resource assessment and inventory, and operate in Microsoft Windows computer environment.
* Communication skills sufficient to clearly communicate complex concepts and principles to other resource professionals and the public.
* Ability to interpret aerial photography, perform field work and keep current with changing GIS and image processing software & techniques while in a production-oriented environment.
### **Preferred Qualifications**
* Advanced degree in Geography Information Systems (GIS), Remote Sensing, Earth & Space Science, or Forestry with an emphasis in GIS.
* Experience and demonstrated proficiency with a variety of remotely sensed data such as lidar, aerial photography, or multi-spectral satellite imagery.
* Experience acquiring and manipulating aerial photography.
* Ability to design and apply statistically valid, spatially distributed samples, and run statistical analyses.
### **Additional Requirements**
This position requires an unrestricted Class D Driver’s License with a clear driving record.
