Richmond District, Ashland Residency is seeking a highly skilled and motivated individual with strong highway maintenance experience and leadership skills to become a frontline supervisor for roadway maintenance crews for the New Kent Area Headquarters. As a Supervisor Maintenance you will assist the area superintendent in assessing needs and planning, scheduling, assigning, and evaluating work; estimating materials, labor, and cost and ordering supplies; monitoring expenditures, assisting in forecasting and budget reports; and supervising area maintenance and contract crews during normal and emergency operations. This position will be responsible for leading safety meetings and training staff on safety methods and protocols; investigating customer inquiries and identifying solutions; maintaining work accomplishment records and project documentation; and serving as backup Inventory Manager.
***This position is designated as essential during emergency situations, which may include but are not limited to inclement weather, disaster response and emergency operations.***

**Minimum Qualifications**
The successful candidate will have:
* Considerable knowledge of roadway maintenance and construction practices and procedures.
* Knowledge of inventory practices and procedures.
* Skill in operating and maintaining light to heavy duty trucks and equipment.
* Skill in the use of computers and software applications.
* Ability to direct, evaluate, and train others.
* Ability to perform manual labor.
* Ability to obtain and maintain required certifications.
* Ability to obtain CDL and DOT medical card within 11 months of employment and maintain thereafter.
* Must comply with DOT and VDOT policies and standards when operating CDL equipment.
* Valid Driver’s license.
**Additional Considerations**
* Experience supervising others and evaluating performance.
* Experience in roadway maintenance and/or construction activities.
* Experience planning schedules and assigning manpower.
* Experience overseeing emergency operations activities including snow removal, storm damage, and accident clean-up.
* Inventory management experience.
* DCR Erosion and Sediment Control certification.
* Commercial Driver’s License.
* A combination of training, experience, or education in Management, Maintenance, Construction or a related field desired.

All drivers hired without a valid CDL in hand are required to obtain their CDL within 11 months of their hire date. You cannot operate commercial motor vehicles prior to receiving the necessary licensure and medical certification. Effective February 7, 2022, new Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) regulations require entry-level drivers (drivers who are seeking to take the skills test in order to obtain a CDL for the first time, upgrade their CDL from a Class A to a Class B, or take the knowledge test to obtain a hazardous materials endorsement for the first time) to complete FMCSA- approved Entry-Level Driving (ELD) Training before the Department of Motor Vehicles can grant the requested CDL or endorsement. The course is comprised of 160 hours, on average, of training. VDOT is willing to assist with your enrollment in and payment for the course upon your acceptance of an ELD Training Tuition tenure and repayment agreement.
